VERSION 5.00

(April 3, 2000)

General

In addition to many new and improved features, this release of the Virtual Tablet Interface supports Windows NT versions 3.51 and higher (including NT 2000) in addition to Windows 9X and Windows 3.1.

The Virtual Tablet Interface is also now available in a number of different editions including: various OEM Editions, a Limited Edition and a Professional Edition. Each Edition runs on all Windows platforms, includes automated setup, multi-tasking and application support; but vary in their features and functionality. For details, see "Which Edition Do I Have?"

Operating system support has been added for Windows 2000 (NT).

All components of the Virtual Tablet Interface are now multiple-monitor aware. In addition, new features supporting multiple monitors have been added to the Drivers and Tablet Manager. See below and the User’s Guide or the Manager’s online help for details.

The Virtual Tablet Interface now accommodates long filenames (Win32 only) and will default to “C:\Program Files\Virtual Tablet” for Win32 systems.

Online registration has been improved allowing users to register the Virtual Tablet Interface via the Web, email, phone, fax, post/mail, or enter an authorization directly to convert a downloaded copy to a registered license of the product.

All components of the Virtual Tablet Interface now display metric values without rounding-off millimeters.

Documentation

The Virtual Tablet Interface comes with a rich set of online documentation in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. Manuals for Getting Started, the Tablet Manager and the Template Editor are fully searchable and may be printed to a high quality printer if paper manuals are desired. However, the Virtual Tablet Interface also comes with the exact same content in Windows help file formats, which are installed when their components are selected. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat (version 3 or higher) installed on your system, you may download this product for free from Adobe Systems Incorporated by visiting their website at http://www.adobe.com/products.

Drivers

Support for Numonics BidMat XNT 3036 and 3648 series has been added.

Support for ALTEK Datatab-DT 1212 and 1218 series has been added.

Support for ALTEK AC 1728, 3690, 40100, 42120, 4880, 48120, 6090, 60120 and 60144 series has been added.

Support for CalComp Creation Station and Design Station series has been added.

Support for Wacom GD (Intuos) Series has been added.

Device resets can now be specified on a per task basis accommodating better control during device switching with task changes.

Stylus tip pressure is now programmable where a pressure threshold determines button one events, e.g. setting the pressure threshold will produce a button one down above the threshold and button one up below the threshold.

Auxiliary button support has been added providing the capability of programming extra buttons based on a digitizer button and keyboard combination, e.g. a button three can be generated from the tip button and shift key.

Multiple monitor support now includes accessing the entire virtual screen with the digitizer and compatibility with other features including Cropping and Wrapping.

Wintab Compatibility

Digitizer lockups in AutoCAD 2000 when opening a plot/layout have been fixed. The previous solution was to use the Device Tab of the Tablet Manager to reset the device or put the driver into polled mode.

Changing a device type on Windows 3.1 and 95 is now correctly recorded. Wintab compatible applications must still be closed and reopened for the new device to be recognized.

Calibration in AutoCAD no longer requires three points.

Overall compatibility has been improved including Paint Shop Pro and CadKey.

Manager

The Manager’s Tabs have been reorganized to make the most commonly used features more accessible and provide for different editions of the product.

The Device Tab has been updated to allow you to specify whether the digitizing device will be reset during startup (Default Tablet) or when switching between tasks with different devices.

The Task Tab now displays tasks with bitmaps for locked and active tasks overlaid onto the application icon denoting whether the task has locked properties and/or has the digitizer input focus.

A Stylus Tab has been added providing an interface to new features including the stylus tip button pressure and programmable auxiliary buttons based on digitizer button and keyboard combinations. For details on these new features, see the User’s Guide or the Manager’s online help.

A System Tab has been added providing an interface to new features including the ability to change the serial port and interrupt usage without reinstalling the product, control over digitizer mapping to multiple monitor configurations and using the digitizer as a mouse under full-screen DOS sessions. For details on these new features, see the User’s Guide or the Manager’s online help.

The F1 key now brings up general rather than context-specific help, and the Help button now brings up context-specific rather than general help.

The Button section of Template tab now has a down-arrow next to the Keys field which drops down a common list of non-printing characters and macros. To insert into the current field, simply make a selection.

The Manager Tab now has a new option to automatically reload externally compiled template files for all tasks in which the template is loaded.

Editor

Bitmaps have been added to menu items that also appear in the Toolbar as visual reminders of their corresponding toolbar functionality. These bitmaps are shown depending on whether the toolbar is visible which can be set from the Tools Options dialog.

A label field has been added to the Style Bar which permits changing an object’s text label.

The Region properties dialog box is now modeless which permits viewing and changing a region’s properties without having to select a menu command each time.

Tool tips on the Tool Bar and Style Bar will now automatically disappear after a short period of time.

The Print dialog has been redesigned and now uses the Windows Print common dialog allowing you to select and configure a printer along with the template printing options. The Printer Setup command has been dropped from the File menu.

General protection faults when using the Template Wizard to build extremely large templates with too many menu items have been fixed.

The Delete command has been added to the Toolbar.

Changing the label size of a combination using the Reduce/Enlarge font command now correctly recalculates the label’s bounding box.

The Properties command is no longer enabled and available for combinations.

Orthographic (square) selection drawing mode is now available when holding down the Shift+Control keys simultaneously.

The Region Properties dialog now has a down-arrow next to the exit field for Virtual Keys which drops down a common list of non-printing characters and macros. To insert into the current field, simply make a selection.

Templates

In addition to command, cursor, control and function keys, the Virtual Tablet Interface now also supports a number of macros which are inserted into the output stream each time a Virtual Key Code sequence is executed. These macros include weekday names, month names, date and time, time zones, etc. For more information and examples, see the Reference Information section in the Tablet Manager’s or Editor's online help file titled “Virtual Key Codes.”

In addition to command, cursor, control, function keys and macros, the Virtual Tablet Interface now also supports a Wait For Enter command which pauses the output sequence until the enter key is pressed. This is useful for outputting a question, receiving a response, and continuing the output or completing a form. For more information and examples, see the Reference Information section in the Tablet Manager’s or Editor's online help file titled “Virtual Key Codes.”

Setup

The Setup program now accommodates installing to long filename directories (Win32 only) and will default to “C:\Program Files\Virtual Tablet” for Win32 systems.

Online registration has been added allowing users to register and purchase the Virtual Tablet Interface via the Web, email, phone, fax, post/mail or enter an authorization remotely to convert a downloaded copy to a registered license of the product.

The setup log file has been renamed from SETUP32.LOG to VTISETUP.LOG.
